Reason it's Annoying:
No hate, total love for the man who wrote and achieved more in a short 18 month period than bollock-stokers like U2 have managed over thirty fucking years. Rave on!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt02zuoxGj4 Amazing quality film considering it's 1957.

When Buddy Holly was here on tour in 1958, he appeared on BBC TV's 'Off the Record' (the accompanying picture was taken on the set) and on ATV's 'Sunday Night at the London Palladium'. Neither survives (quelle surprise), which makes the clip above all the more special. Is it from an Ed Sullivan show?

I didn't know Buddy Holly visited the UK, you learn something new every day.

He packed a lot into a very short time. There's a story in Bruce Welch's memoirs about an early Shadows tour where 8 blokes involved with the show took turns to screw the same groupie under the stage of the St George's Hall in Bradford, because it was rumoured she'd slept with Buddy Holly when he'd been over here.

That could have been my mother-in-law.

My dad saw that Buddy Holly tour, in Coventry I think. And yes, the clip is from the Ed Sullivan show, the silly old twat introduced them as "Bud Hollerd and the Cruckutts".

I thought your mother-in-law was too busy in Putney weighing Lonnie's spuds?

I don't know how anyone can hate Buddy Holly. Well, maybe just a little bit for indirectly inspiring Hank Marvin, what a sour old cunt he is.

11 for writing the theme tune to 'Heartbeat'. Cheers for the pain, you four eyed stiff.

Well, quite. Made glasses hip, made the Fender Strat an iconic bit of kit, left a legacy of wonderful music. Thing is, he's one of those who really did die far too young. He would have just carried on getting better and better. I have absolutely no doubt of that whatsoever.

Remember him hanging upside down in Mike's bedroom in The Young Ones? Hehehe.
